The Esqueda family established Taqueria Gran Morelos in Racine, Wisconsin, in 1992. The Esqueda family remains the owners and operators of Taqueria Gran Morelos by working hard “to achieve our dream of operating a business while providing opportunities for quality jobs in our community.” Stop by Taqueria Gran Morelos “if you are in search of a good Mexican restaurant or want to cater your next party.” The Esqueda family would like to say, “thanks to all of our loyal customers, we are honored to serve you.”

Joey and Anna LeGath are well-known thanks to almost 30 years of business in the Racine-area food industry. Joey’s father, a Milwaukee police officer, started the family trade in 1966 when the LeGaths moved to Racine and opened a George Webb restaurant. Previously known as the Yardarm, Joey’s Yardarm is LeGath’s most recent acquisition.

Joey & Anna’s nephew, Tyler, brings a passion for food and years of culinary experience to Joey’s Yardarm. Tyler dreams of creating food from scratch with quality ingredients to provide new healthy options in addition to classic bar food. Their goal is to build a nice bar as Joey’s Yardarm blends “strong traditions with some changes” that will spearhead a fruitful future for Joey’s Yardarm.

Junaid and Angela relocated from Japan to Racine in 2019 and founded Chit Chaat. Angela, a Racine native, taught English in Japan, where she met Junaid from Pakistan. Junaid missed his home country’s meals and had his mother teach him how to make them over video calls. With Angela’s support, Junaid began opening his restaurant. Junaid’s dream is to “share the fresh and flavorful food of his origins with his new community.” Chit Chaat partners with Sleeping Giant Coffee, and you can find their daily specials on Facebook.

Born and raised in Racine, Wisconsin, Tasia White “has built a life full of infinite love and light” in her hometown. As an alumna of UW-Parkside and Alverno University, she was a teacher before serving as a principal for six years. From a young age, though, White loved cooking. “As a little girl, watching my late mother, Tammy Collier, cook with love, along with my loving grandmothers, the seed was planted early.”

Studying Rachel Ray’s 30-minute meals as a teenager, White has been hooked on cooking ever since. While pursuing a career in her degree field, she never lost sight of her purpose; “investing my passion through the food I made, seeing the joy it brought to those around me, and how everyone’s faces would light up at the sight.”
